Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Whilst our volunteer editors will do their best to ensure our events listings are as up to date and accurate as possible; with the fast pace of how things are changing, it is inevitable that some will slip through the net. If you are planning on travelling for larger events, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly to avoid disappointment. We are putting in place new measures to give event organisers a friendly reminder to see if they wish to remove cancelled events, so we're sorry if it looks a bit bare in here :(

If you, or any of your party have a new persistant cough, or develop a fever of 38C, we would instead advise you to use the NHS's dedicated website for free, professional advice.

The Dream of a Ridiculous Man , 3rd November 2021, 19:45 to 20:45 at Headgate Theatre Colchester, Chapel Street North, Colchester (21.3 miles)
The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, adapted by Pat Whymark from the short story by Dostoevsky .
A fantastical tale of new beginnings, featuring Julian Harries as the Ridiculous Man, with Pat Whymark and Emily Bennett providing live musical accompaniment. It tells the story of a man who, much like Scrooge in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, has a dream which saves his life, brings him back from the edge of despair, reconnects him to society and restores his faith in humanity. Its a poignant, funny and cathartic piece, particularly appropriate for this present moment in time.
A one act play, 50 mins long.

Tickets Adult: £12 Under 21s £8 plus booking fee

Jumpy , 10th November 2021 to 13th November 2021, 19:45 to 22:45 at Headgate Theatre, 14 Chapel Street North, Chapel Street North, Colchester (21.3 miles)
Hilary is fifty years old and once protested at Greenham Common. She is now a married, middle class mum with a shop-owner husband and a stroppy teenage daughter. A classic mid-life crisis play, Jumpy is funny, deliciously rude and at times piercingly moving. Warning: the show includes a gunshot, occasional adult language and a scene featuring some nudity.

Saturday Matinee at 2.30 pm

Tickets £13, £10 (Students, 65+)

Noel Coward's "Still Life" and "A Coward curtain-raiser ", 17th November 2021 to 20th November 2021, 19:45 to 21:45 at Headgate Theatre Colchester, Chapel Street North, Colchester (21.3 miles)
A rare opportunity to see Coward's poignant drama, which formed the basis of "Brief Encounter", one of the most beloved films of all time. Set in a railway refreshment room in the late 1930s, the play deals with the chance meeting of Alec and Laura who are married to other people. The sadness of their subsequent love affair is vividly contrasted with the boisterous and uncomplicated relationship of another couple.
